Eyelid Lift – Monterey, CA
The areas around the eyes go through many changes with the aging process. There is drooping of the thin upper eyelid skin. The outer corners of the eyes may also become lax and droop, which gives a sad and melancholy look. Overall, aged eyelids can give the overall facial appearance of not only being old, but also tired, angry or sleepy. Surgery to improve the upper eyelids can help restore a youthful and refreshed appearance.*

Is a brow lift necessary?
Patients frequently come in for consultations thinking that they just need an eyelid surgery to improve the appearance of their eyes. While this may be the case for some, other patients are surprised to find out that the cause of their drooping eyelids is also due to eye brow droop. Aging eye brows typically descend below the bony rim above the eyes and create hooding with extra skin on the outer part of the eyes. Brow lift surgery can improve and restore the position of the eye brows. As the eye brows are raised back to a more youthful position, the eyelid skin is also repositioned.* If you have lower eye bags, these can be treated non-surgically with tear trough fillers. Dr. Wong will perform a comprehensive evaluation on your eye area and recommend a treatment plan that is tailored to your anatomy and needs.

The surgery
Eyelid surgery can be performed with local anesthetic (numbing medication that is injected), sedation (medications that create overall relaxation), or general anesthesia (where patients “go to sleep”). The type of anesthesia depends on what Dr. Wong feels is the safest option for you. This procedure is performed on an outpatient basis where you will get to go home with your family the same day as your surgery. Depending on what is surgically necessary, eyelid surgery is typically 1 hour long. Eyelid surgery can be combined with other operations (such as face lift or brow lift surgery).
Recovery
We always work with you to promote a safe and speedy recovery. Patients typically take a week to recover. You should rest your eyes for the first 2-3 days, after which you should be able to resume everyday activities like watching TV or reading a magazine. Dr. Wong will see you in clinic within a week of surgery and remove any necessary small sutures. You can start using eye make up again at this point.
