Neck Lift – Monterey, CA
A neck lift surgery by Dr. Wendy Wong is designed to dramatically improve and restore appearance of the neck.*
*Individual results may vary.
There are several reasons why our necks age. There may be excess fat that accumulates, giving the appearance of a very heavy neck. A pair of neck muscles, called the platysma muscles, may become stretched, loose and spread apart. Sometimes, neck bands can be seen from the muscle irregularities as well. Our soft tissue and glands sag from their once youthful position. Lastly, the thin neck skin has become even thinner like tissue paper or “crepe-y.” Neck lift surgery can improve the appearance of the neck. Having a youthful, beautiful neck is especially attractive in women. Our male patients are also interested in this surgery as they are bothered by the bunching of excess neck skin and fat when they wear buttoned collared shirts.
Many people don’t realize that neck lift surgery and face lift surgery share some territories. A neck lift surgery has similar incisions as a facelift. Typically there are scars well-hidden in the natural creases in front of the ear, behind the ear, and into the hairline. Sometimes, a separate incision is necessary behind the chin to get the most optimal results, depending on the patient’s anatomy. A neck lift surgery can be combined with a face lift surgery.
What to expect in surgery
Neck lift surgery can be performed under local or general anesthesia, depending on patient comfort and if the surgery will be combined with other procedures. Typically, this surgery is done on an outpatient basis where you can go home with your family the same day as surgery. The operation takes 2 – 3 hours depending on whether you have other surgeries combined, which can increase the surgical time necessary. Incisions are usually placed in well-hidden areas in front of and behind the ear as well as behind the chin. You may be placed in some light, soft dressings after surgery. You may have a small drain that Dr. Wong will remove for you usually the following day.
Recovery
You are recommended to walk after surgery and can usually engage in normal daily activities within the first 2 days. Dr. Wong will see you within the first week after your surgery. Your stitches will be removed and she will check your incisions carefully. You may have some bruising that improves within the first week. Typically, patients look good enough to attend a social event at 2 – 3 weeks.* There will still be some amount of swelling that continues to improve over the next few months.
